Luis Suarez is considering a move to Aston Villa after holding talks with Steven Gerrard, according to reports.

Gerrard played a key role in convincing Philippe Coutinho to make the move to Villa on a loan deal from Barcelona last week.

And according to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, who interviewed Suarez on his Twitch channel in October, Gerrard is trying to bring another former Liverpool teammate to Villa Park as he has made an approach to the Uruguay international.

Romero claims that Suarez has received offers from three Brazilian clubs – Palmeiras, Corinthians and Atletico Mineiro – as well as another from Saudi Arabia, but the striker has rejected them all as he wants to ‘focus’ on the proposal from Villa.

Romero has revealed that Gerrard and Suarez have already spoken about the prospect of returning to the Premier League and the 34-year-old is now considering a switch to Villa.

Suarez’s current contract with Atletico Madrid is due to expire at the end of the season which would allow him to leave on a free transfer.

Suarez, who played a key role in Atletico’s La Liga title success last season, has scored nine goals in 27 appearances this term but has failed to find the net in his last 10 games.

But despite his drought, Diego Simeone stressed on Tuesday that Suarez remains a key part of his side.

‘We have spoken with Luis for two months about what I think of him, of how important he is for us and the situations that we create for him and without him on the pitch,’ Simeone said.

‘What I think of him, he knows it and I didn’t speak to him after Sevilla, I have spoken to him for two months.’

Gerrard, meanwhile, has described Gerrard as the best he’s ever played with following their four seasons together at Liverpool where they came close to winning the Premier League title.

‘I don’t think anyone ever looks forward to playing against Luis Suarez, he is a fantastic talent and a very dangerous player,’ Gerrard said in 2015.

‘He is a fantastic team-mate, probably the best player I have played with.

‘He’s a good guy, a family man away from the pitch, we keep in touch and have supported each other throughout our careers.’
