Jurgen Klopp is far from ready to accept defeat for Liverpool in the Premier League title race, encouraging people to ‘enjoy the ride’ as the Reds try to catch Manchester City at the top of the table.

Klopp’s side beat Brentford 3-0 on Sunday, which put them back within 11 points of the champions, although they do have a game in hand.

It is an enormous task to make up that difference on any side, but especially Pep Guardiola’s men, who have won 12 Premier League games on the spin and beat Chelsea for a second time this season on Saturday.

Things do not look especially hopeful for Klopp and his outfit, but he will not be giving up and does not care whether onlookers feel his team have a chance or not.

‘We don’t have to convince anyone outside to believe. If they want to believe they can believe,’ Klopp said after the win over the Bees on Sunday afternoon.

‘If you are with us, you will enjoy the ride and we will go for everything. We are ready to go as much as we can.

‘This is not the situation to talk about a title fight, it’s 11 points now with one game in hand.

‘In a normal world nothing happens anymore but what is normal nowadays? We try to do our part, there is nothing else to do.’

Klopp was delighted with the win over Brentford as it came without Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita, who are all competing at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Goals from Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino secured the big win and leaves them full of confidence ahead of the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal on Thursday at the Emirates after a goalless draw at Anfield.

The Reds return to Premier League action at Crystal Palace on Sunday.
